The first step out of bed is agonizing, but the pain seems to diminish over the course of the day, until later when you try to get out of your chair where you just sat through a two hour meeting, and the same stabbing pain you felt in the morning returns in your heel. Oddly enough, being off your feet seems to make the problem worse, not better.
This condition, plantar fasciitis, is most commonly seen in runners or those who are pregnant or overweight. The pain is rooted in the inflammation of the planta fascia. This is a connective band, like a rubber band, that stretches under the arch and connects your heel to the the toes. Throughout the day, it stretches and moves with the foot, but excessive overstretching it by having poor arch support can invite problems such as tears in the plantar fascia which can lead to inflammation and pain. Certain factors can cause or make the problem worse, and one of the biggest culprits is wearing shoes without adequate support, or being a frequent runner. If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, your doctor might recommend aspirin or ibuprofen to temporarily relieve pain. He will also suggest that you change your footwear to ease current symptoms and prevent future problems.
Those with plantar fasciitis need a shoe that offers support in the arch. This can help to prevent the plantar fascia from overstretching and tearing. A shoe that has soft heel support will also help to add some cushioning. Some of the shoes in the New Balance line best for those with plantar fasciitis include: Men’s or Women’s Walking 845, 926, or 811 Motion Control or the Women’s Walking 760 Stability; Men’s of Women’s Running 1223, 859, 769 Stability; the Men’s or Women’s 1123 or 587 Running Motion Control. The Aravon Line of women’s dress shoes will also off support for the foot while at work.
Proper foot support is crucial to controlling and alleviating the pain of plantar fasciitis.
